Window Styles
Stylish residential windows are a great way of enhancing the beauty of any house, but what looks good is not always the best pick. Durability of the window is also extremely important. You could choose a plain window, or a stylish choice. Here are some styles of windows for you.
If you are looking at something that is easy to clean, then a sliding window is a great pick. That is mainly because these types of windows have removable sashes, and once these are removed, cleaning becomes hassle-free. It is quite economical, and great when it comes to locking in energy, but it may not be the best pick if you need great ventilation. That is because in these types of windows, only one sash can be slid at a time
Casement windows work on hinges, and can be either opened outwards, or inwards. This lets you enjoy a lot of fresh air and a high amount of ventilation also. Cleaning these types is also worry free, as both the sides of the casement window are very much within reach.
The only thing that differs in an awning and a casement window is the position where it is hinged. In a casement window, hinging is on the side, whereas awning windows are hinged on the top. Hopper windows are hinged only at the bottom, and are usually only located on lower walls.
To have a Jalousie window means excellent ventilation that lets in a lot of refreshing air. The glass slats are arranged in a manner that the slats tilt when the Jalousie window is opened. This type of window however is not the safest window style to have.
Fixed pane windows are sealed, and cannot be opened at any time. It is best suited for climatic conditions that are not really favorable, and require the continuous use of a cooler or a heater.
This type of window is made up of two sashes that are hung, and while one is on the top, the other is on the bottom. Only one out of the two can be opened in one go, and that is a drawback if you're looking for good ventilation. The only way to sort that out is by simultaneously opening two double hung windows that are opposite to each other. The window with the top portion open gets rid of the air inside the house, while the one open at the bottom gets some of that refreshing air in from outside.
A single hung window works on the same mechanism as the double hung windows, except that in this type of window, only one sash can be opened up.
Bay windows look extremely elegant these windows have a central window with one or more sections on each of its sides, and the windows are either in casement or double hung forms.
The name itself defines the shape of a bow window. It is curvy and looks similar to a bow. This type of window consists of over three sections.
Tilt turn window is both a window and also an emergency exit, and that's mainly because this kind of window can turn up to even a hundred and eighty degrees. So you can tilt it to a comfortable angle to clean it up.
Egress windows are big windows that serve as a perfect emergency exit. The size of these windows is very much in accordance with what is defined by local building coded for an emergency exit.
A storm window is the best protective shield against stormy conditions, and it also protects the house from too much of heat or cold. A simple mechanism that sets this type of window apart from the rest, is the air pocket that exists between itself and the regular window.
